Why Create a Debt Free Michigan?

For the past 20 years or so, our economy has been strong, jobs have been plentiful, real estate was booming, home values were increasing rapidly, money was cheap and easy to borrow and our society for the most part was more interested in helping people get into debt, thus creating very negative financial habits. Suddenly we're caught in a "perfect storm" where everything that was so positive for so long is suddenly going backward. On one hand, we're potentially facing our greatest personal and economic challenge since the Great Depression. On the other hand, because we are all so aware of our challenges, businesses, organizations and individuals are more receptive to new and positive change. We need to rapidly create a fundamental change in our thinking and actions from a nation of debtors to a nation of investors. This can only be accomplished by opening our collective minds to learning different information that leads to creating positive financial habits, promoting financial responsibility and eliminating debt. In effect, our business and community leaders need to create a Debt Free Revolution.

By creating and implementing educational systems and financial tools specifically designed to help people and businesses eliminate debt and increase financial literacy, Debt Free Michigan.org will lead the charge in helping create a positive direction for our state's financial future.
